Netclearance has introduced a wearable identity card that facilitates access control, indoor location tracking and contactless payments.
Known as the mBeaconCard, the smart badge contains Bluetooth LE and NFC chips that work with designated readers to facilitate workforce analytics. The mBeaconCard is an application of workforce IoT with its features covering employee safety.
The mBeaconCard aims to make smartphone apps or key fobs redundant as it allows employers in institutions such as hospitals and schools, as well as at conferences and events, to use a single identification badge infrastructure that functions as an indoor tracker and proximity communication device. A certain company utilised the badge in a project phase, where it helped monitor lone workers out in the field.
Jonathan Duffy, executive director of EMEA Netclearance, said: “The mBeaconCard was developed to fill a gap in workplace analytics. Entry and exit points to a building are easy to monitor with secure turnstiles but there is not a robust solution on the market that can locate badges inside a building.
“Based on appearance, the smart badge looks like any other identification card,” said Duffy. “However, there's more under the hood as each smart card contains technology that allows the card to be used for contactless applications and indoor wireless tracking.”
The smart badge utilises embedded accelerator technology to alert employers if an individual remains stationary for a long period of time. The badge also finds application in emergency situations, where individuals can be tracked during an evacuation. The mBeaconCard ensures ultra-low power consumption and can run for several years on a thin battery.
