Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was recently at the headquarters of Smart Dubai, at the Dubai Design District (d3), to launch the flagship Dubai IoT Strategy, as well as the Data Wealth initiative to safeguard and the emirate’s digital wealth, and award the Dubai Digital Certificates to outstanding government private entities.
The Dubai IoT Strategy includes building the world’s most advanced IoT ecosystem in Dubai, aiming to protect the country’s digital wealth, encourage government departments to join the emirate’s smart transformation, and achieve the objectives of the Smart Dubai Plan 2021 to transition to a 100% paperless government.
Scheduled to be implemented over four consecutive phases in the coming three years, the first phase involves coordination of efforts and activities to implement IoT policies across government departments. The second phase is the Integration and Conversion phase, which seeks to harmonise efforts towards implementing the IoT Strategy. After the third Optimisation phase, the strategies will go into the final “Blockchain Journey” stage, which will witness the full integration of IoT policies and the first ROI of the strategy. It covers six strategic domains: governance, management, acceleration, deployment, monetisation and security.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Smart Dubai Office and the Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC) wherein both the parties will collaborate and exchange administrative and technical know-how, in addition to harmonising their efforts to achieve Smart Dubai’s goals and objectives, and to outline common ICT-based smart policies, strategies and initiatives.
Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, director general of DESC, said: “Our close cooperation with Smart Dubai provides us with the support we need to fend off cyber-threats and make Dubai the smartest and most secure city from a digital standpoint. Exchanging knowledge and expertise is essential for joint projects, as it enables the participating entities to secure their systems and remain in line with the highest international standards, as well as Dubai’s cyber-security requirements.”
