Sateliot has launched four additional low-Earth orbit (LEO) nanosatellites as part of its growing 5G NB-IoT NTN constellation. The satellites were launched on 16 August at 19:18 BST from a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

The satellites are designed to extend the coverage of mobile telecom operators to the entire planet, addressing connectivity black spots and enabling IoT capabilities worldwide. This expansion brings Sateliot closer to its goal of operating a constellation of over 100 satellites by 2028, potentially transforming industries regardless of location or existing infrastructure.

Jaume Sanpera, CEO and co-founder of Sateliot, commented: “This launch propels us into a new phase of development. Not only will we begin generating revenue, but we will also position Spain as a global leader in IoT connectivity.”

The company’s approach incorporates a patented ‘Store and Forward’ technology, offering global connectivity with its new orbital plane. Sateliot’s satellites are the first to fully implement standard GSMA and 3GPP developments, with the aim of using them “to continue leading the NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks) community in future innovations.”

Initially, Sateliot’s technology is set to connect more than eight million devices from companies that have already contracted the service. The democratic and accessible nature of the technology makes it suitable for a wide range of applications across various sectors, including agriculture, livestock, logistics, and critical infrastructure management.

The launch event, held in Barcelona, brought together key stakeholders and featured support from the European Space Agency (ESA), GSMA, and the Spanish Government. Co-founders Sanpera and Marco Guadalupi (CTO) provided insights into the company’s future plans during the event.

Sateliot’s ambitious roadmap includes the deployment of additional satellites by 2025 and ongoing discussions to secure a Series B funding round of €30 million. Since its founding in 2018, the company has raised €25 million and aims to achieve revenues of €1 billion by 2030.

By leveraging 5G NB-IoT technology in space, Sateliot is addressing the longstanding challenge of providing reliable, cost-effective IoT solutions in remote and underserved areas. As more industries adopt IoT solutions for improved efficiency and data-driven decision-making, the demand for global, uninterrupted connectivity is likely to soar.
