Telit Cinterion has partnered with Commstar Radio to offer NExT SIM multi-carrier connectivity to customers, with an initial municipal deployment in Reeseville, Wisconsin.

The agreement gives the Wisconsin-based communications provider access to Telit Cinterion’s single-SIM service for multiple mobile networks. The companies are targeting communications across urban, rural, and hard-to-reach locations, including services used by municipalities, utilities, transportation providers, and field service teams.

Kevin Hankes, President of Commstar Radio, said: “Our customers depend on communications systems that work wherever their teams operate. By partnering with Telit Cinterion, we can provide resilient multi-network connectivity across urban and rural environments while giving customers greater reliability, security, and flexibility than traditional single-carrier solutions.”

Telit Cinterion NExT SIM supports multiple cellular technologies

According to Telit Cinterion, NExT SIM provides secure access to more than 600 mobile carrier networks worldwide, including the three major US networks. Customers access those networks through a single SIM.

The service runs on the company’s georedundant NExT global network and supports cellular technologies from 2G to 5G. Its stated application range covers low-power wide-area (LPWA) devices and high-bandwidth applications.

For Commstar Radio’s customers, the offering adds multi-network connectivity to its wireless communications services. Telit Cinterion says the service provides extensive Cat M and narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) coverage, alongside support for the other cellular technologies.

Martin Krona, President of Services and Solutions at Telit Cinterion, commented: “Organisations responsible for public services, utilities, transportation, and field operations need connectivity that goes beyond a single carrier, leveraging multiple networks to protect critical operations.

“Together with Commstar Radio, we’re enabling secure, resilient communications that can intelligently leverage multiple carrier networks to keep people, devices, and operations connected.”

Telit Cinterion describes access to multiple carrier networks, but it does not specify the network-selection process or provide availability figures for individual locations. The global network count therefore does not establish which carriers or technologies will be accessible at a particular deployment site.

Commstar Radio reports Reeseville deployment

Commstar Radio’s existing services cover land mobile communications, push-to-talk over cellular, and wireless infrastructure connectivity. Its portfolio also spans secure wireless services, mobile device management, cloud communications, and cybersecurity.

The company serves organisations in local government, energy, transportation, and public infrastructure, as well as utilities and field services. These are the customer groups the partnership identifies for the NExT SIM offering.

The Village of Reeseville is highlighted as an initial deployment for municipal communications and public service operations. It provides a customer endorsement of Commstar Radio’s service, rather than measured results for the NExT SIM deployment.

Jake Pacala, Village President of Reeseville, Wisconsin, said: “Commstar Radio has been a trusted and reliable partner for the Village of Reeseville since the company’s inception. Municipalities require an abundance of services in this domain, making reliability and service a must.”
